Day 10 (August 30, 2006) - Milwaukee, WI
<<^>>
I finally met Scott! We have been working together for at least 7 years without ever meeting in person. We met at the Alterra Café, just a mile north of the Milwaukee Art Museum, we had a nice long chat over breakfast. I am so glad we had a chance to meet. The art museum alone is worth a trip, inside and outside. It's the first US building by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. What a wonderful structure! The wings open and close various times during the day, it looks like a bird flying.

Milwaukee is the home of many breweries of the past (and many microbreweries today) and of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. About the first, I have a fist-hand experience and gave it an approval stamp. About the second, I have some personal reservations. It would have been mighty cool to drive up to the factory in our Vespa, just to juxtapose the quintessential Italian bike to its American counterpart, but we had to choose between the museum and the H-D factory tour. And the museum won hands down. After all, not all culture is the same.

We left Milwaukee early afternoon to go to Madison, WI where Petr was meeting up with colleagues from the SolidWorks office there. Paul was waiting for us, took us around town and we had dinner at the Great Dane Pub, very cute setting, and a rich menu even for someone like me! Then we settled for the Token Creek campground just outside the city limits.
